Great photo, great idea, need help to proceed

Hi, complete newbie to graphics here, but I’m struggling to learn on my own with lots of help from online tutorials. I have gimp, mostly because I can’t afford Photoshop. Anyway, I have this really awesome pic of the moon that looks like a UFO saucer, and I want to incorporate it as eyes into a portrait photo. I just really don’t know how to proceed. Does anyone know of a really great site for explaining layers?

Welcome to TalkGraphics I don't use Gimp so I am not much help. But, you have an idea, an image, and a program, what better way to learn than by figuring out how to make it work. Go for it.

You are so right, gwpriester, what better way to learn. I'll get it, just have to practice, practice, practice. And to beretgascon, thanks for the link, I have tried some of their tuts, but maybe I need to dig a little deeper. It's just like when you first start out with Algebra, (what the heck does, 'x', mean?????) and then you get it and it all falls in place. I'm sure that will happen for me too. Thanks for the input

If you don't already have it then download a free Xara Designer trial and do it in that. Theres even a tutorial movie about replacing the eyes in a portrait. The tutorial is replacing the eyes with cats eyes but the principal is the same and the moon would be just as easy if not easier.

I agree with masque... Xara programs are so user friendly and there are plenty of help out there to help.
