Default Search Box and Results Display

In creating a new multi-page website with XD6, I need to add a search box for the user to search for the site's contents, links, etc. - and display the results. Any ideas on the forum as to how to do this?? If so, examples would be wonderful.

    You could try BingBox

Hi There, I was also lookng for a search box and found this thread.
I have put the bing box on my web pages but what ever I type in, nothing gets found.
I read somewhere in a post that xara converts all text into pictures.
    Is that so?
If so, where do you put the key words for spiders and searches?

Xara only exports text as image if the text is part of a group, like for a button with text. But even then you can still force Xara to output as text if you add the name "HTMLtext" to it.

I checked the generated html and indeed all text is there.
I have all my text in text boxes.

So I suppose then the question is, why does search not find a single word on my site?

Nothng will be found by BING untill BING spiders crawl the site. This doesn't happen the instant a BING box is added, it may take weeks - even months - for content to show. Make sure that BING and other SE's are aware of the site.

IOW: The BING search box is not a way to add a unique search system instantly to JUST your site. It's simply a specific 'site' search.

    Ah, frustration.
I did not know that, I have also tried google search without results.
I got th esearch box from:
    http://www.bing.com/siteowner/searchboxstep1.aspx
and put it into a place holder in Xara.

My site is not live yet.
I have created a subdirectory with a long string of numbers on the web server so I can develop on my PC and now and then upload to this development site to see what it look like.
I do not want it to go live yet as it is far from finished.
Just wanted to be cerytain that the search worked and would show results as expected.

Is there no other search box that can be used that simply works straight away?

No. Well, yes - but you would probably need a scripting language such as PHP and use an SQL database.

Best to let Google or Bing do the heavy lifting.

    http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/re...ch_script.php3
"Remember, if the script does not use indexing or a database application, it would be searching web pages using a brute-force method (opening and closing each file as it searches them) which is server intensive. This is not a good proposition for web sites with hundreds of pages."
