    Default planet rings help

I am working on an ebook cover and am trying to figure out how to make planet rings. Basically a way to place the planet in the center of the ring rather than on or behind it. I have searched the forums but can not find anything. I have attached the .xar file for reference. Can anyone direct me? Thanks much!

BTW...the 6 bright circles are future engine flare...I have to sketch the ships out next

Group your planet objects, make a clone, and put the clone to the side.
Place your rings over the first planet. Then take the planet clone and put it precisely on top of the first. Make a linear transparency so the rings to the back are obscured and the front rings are visible.
    That's one method anyway.

Just use the 3D tool to do the hard work for you:

Another quick way is to use clipview.

    Draw planet.
    Draw rings.
Draw a clipping object/mask over the area that should be in front of the rings.
    Clone (Ctrl+K) planet.
Select clipping mask and cloned planet.
    Apply ClipView

If you decide to change the angle you don't have to fiddle with transparencies or cutting up rings or planets, simply re-position the ClipView mask.

    Hi GCFL

The rings in your own answers to your own post are brilliant, I think.

Stick with them, if I was you!
