How do I make a pic sorta posterized w/color? (I have example)

Hello new friends and fiends,

I really need help here. I am trying to wrap up my design of a record label website (not for pay). I found a really nice effect on another record label website, which I have seen before but do not know how to do. The effect involves making a picture sort of posterized, and then making it a color. Forgive me for not know more proper terms. I have listed the website with an example below. The example are the three pictures with the words "Music", Store", and "Accessories" on them.

You can change your image mode to grayscale, then back to RGB.

Increase the contrast of the photo. Then add a solid red overlay with Multiply or Color Burn transparency on top.
