XDP6 Designs Gallery Folder Hierarchies

Is there some way to create folder hierarchies for the folders we add to XPD6's Designs Gallery by pressing the "Disc designs…" button? I didn't see it mentioned in Help. I also looked at folders with subfolders in the clip art and templates that came w/ XPD6.1.1 and didn't see anything obvious.

Hi Rich,

Currently there isn't an automatic way to get subfolders when you add your own clipart.

There is a roundabout way of setting them up manually.

I will attempt to explain how I understand it.

1. Create your primary folder for your disc clipart.
2. Create the subfolders and place your .xar files into them.
3. To have the XaraClip.txt files created for you, use the Designs Gallery and add each subfolder to the Gallery. Remove the subfolders from the Gallery, this does not remove the xarainfo subfolder and it's XaraClip.txt file.
4. In your primary folder create a new subfolder name xarainfo.
5. Within the subfolder xarainfo use notepad or other plain text editor to create a new XaraClip.txt file.

The following Code block contains the text from the XaraClip.txt file for the Web Templates section of the Designs Gallery. The lines beginning with an Exclamation mark are the subfolders. The text immediately following the Exclamation mark is the folder name a comma and space then the text you want to show in the Gallery.

The attached images show how the Gallery displays the folder and subfolder, and the directory structure as seen in Windows Explorer.

My tests have indicated that method will work. It is possible to manually create the subfolder XaraClip.txt files, but I find it easier to let the program do that part then simply remove the individual subfolders from the Gallery.

I'm thinking about the possiblity of adding a Gallery subfolder creation section to XaReg. So many ideas, but so little time to work on them.

Full time job and lawn work take up too much of my time.

Looks as if the nesting of folders and XARAINFO/INFO.TXT file structure even goes up another level with the Xara stuff as the outer CLIPART folder contains its own XARAINFO subfolder which identifies and labels the outer level of folders.

Yes the xarainfo folders and XaraClip.txt files are nested for the entire Clipart folder.

If you do set up the nested folders, you might want to keep a copy of the txt files somewhere in a safe place so you can restore them if necessary.

I'm thinking about the CD install we're going to have to do in a few weeks. Regardless, it's a good idea anyway. I always keep copies of my customized keyboard ini file and templates outside the program folder, often on another partition.
