Hello psaumure, here is a quick tutorial on how to create the burnt edges using XDP6. I hope it helps.

@Bill, have you tried using Xara's improved freehand brushes to do calligraphy?

Edit: It might help if I attach the file sorry about this

    Hi angelize,

I like your seamless tile and I believe you are the featured artist for the tutorial that I'm currently working on. If I'm correct about that, I would like to congratulate you. Great job. It's one thing to do the artwork and is completely another to break it down to show others.

You'll have to forgive me, I'm new to working with forums. I cannot figure out how to go to the tutorial for the burnt edges based on your post.

I'm relatively new to Xara and I'm not familiar how to use brushes yet. I have seen a couple of video tutorials so I know that it can be a powerful tool. Boy do I have a lot to learn.

On this particular piece I had to cut the edges out by hand and then I cloned and clipped the edges and added some color. I'm sure there's some tools that can make this job a lot easier. In addition to the scroll I would like to do some old-fashioned photos that will need the edges trimmed. that would be very time-consuming doing that by hand.

julia, I love your seamless tile. Good job!

Frances I haven't used the improved brushes yet. I may connect my old Graphire tablet and give them a try.

@Psaumure: Click on the thumbnail for a larger image. If you need it larger still click the pop up and the tutorial will open in a new window from there you can print it out if desired using Ctrl +P.

@Bill: I made a custom brush for doing calligraphy, I'm planning on doing a short tutorial and posting the brush, but first I need a little practice my calligraphy skills are a little rusty and its quite different doing calligraphy on the tablet.

    Thank you angelize,
I must of viewed your post before you posted the file. I'm halfway through your tutorial and I am learning a great deal about transparencies. I love the new tools, it's just taken a little while to grasp the techniques.

    Thank you again for sharing.

On the same day that lupen posted a picture of a skull I dug up a small cat skull in the garden under a bush. What else are you going to do with a cats skull other than start to draw it.
I've not got as far with it as I thought I would by now but here's what it looks like so far in case I never get round to finishing it. It looks bit creepy sittng at a desk doing the 'alas poor Yorick' thing with a cats skull while drawing it.
