No new forum. Definitely not. If a thread is a gripe, we can choose to read it or avoid it if we want to.

Dispte my previously posted nonsense I don't think its a good idea. People would go there just to watch a fight or even to egg on the combatents. So no, not a good idea.

    Folks,

Has it occurred to anyone but me that perhaps Gary opened this thread in order for us to have a look at what we may value in a forum and to show how 'less than mature' we may have been during this recent blowup?

I'm not saying it's so, but maybe.......
    Ed......:-)

All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you.

Good point, though I think things were calming down.

Derek - This is not an argument!

For anybody alive who has not seen Monthy Python's "The Argument Clinic" sketch less than 20 times, watch it again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teMlv3ripSM

OK I confess. My suggestion for a free for all no holds barred forum was meant as irony. But it has brought out some interesting thinking about this conference and the Internet/Forums in general.

The moderators appreciate the support we received from the members. But perhaps now it is time to put the Support the Moderator avatars aside and get the forum back on track.

I have a smashing idea for a new forum but I will save it for another day.

I think if it has taught me anything, it's made me think I should read peoples posts better, then I might get the more subtle hints a bit better.

If everybody did the same, we'd all be better off and everyone would naturally agree with my viewpoint. Perhaps I should start using ALL CAPS?

    LOL ;-)

    What? No "Thunderdome"?

I understand Gary, such a thing would have been more about temper-tantrums and name-calling than actual discussion. I think the only times I have objected to a thread being locked was because it was done so simply to appease some unreasonable objectors.

Thread hi-jacking, personal attacks and such are good reasons to warn people off or even lock a thread, but more than once I have seen threads closed simply because they criticise Xara, or Xtreme itself, and some members have taken offence at that. Too often it was those who cannot stand the criticism, unrealistic or not, who have caused the furore and even demanded that threads be closed. This is not an adult attitude. If someone does not like the subject of a thread and have had their say, then they should move on.

Still, I don't give undue weight to anything posted in an internet forum, perhaps others do.
