    Default EXIF and RAW images

Not sure if this happens with all RAW format images.

When importing a CR2 RAW image, the EXIF information is not included.

EXIF data is included ok for any JPG image.

Forgot to mention, this is occurring in Designer Pro 6.

Technically there is no EXIF data in RAW - but there is always a JPG in a RAW file (this is used for the preview in your camera amongst other things) and it is in the JPG that the EXIF data is written.
DCRAW (used for the import) does not parse this, so RAW files brought into DP6 don't get the EXIF data.

    Hmm. Ok.

So what you are saying is the EXIF information is only attached to a JPG image, but that EXIF information that's displayed with a RAW file comes from the JPG image that's embedded in the RAW file. Is that right?

    - just trying to understand.

    Correct.

Many people actually don't realise that all RAW have JPG embedded.
There is no absolute reason to shoot JPEG+RAW

You can download a right-click shell extension to instantly extract JPG from RAW (Windows32bit and 64bit versions + a Mac version)

Well there you go! I've learnt something. (So all the rumours about being too old are false after all!)

Mind you, I never shoot in JPEG+RAW. Invariably it's just RAW so I can have more control over white balance.

Maybe if DCRAW is updated in the future it might parse the EXIF data.

For now, I can live without it.

    Thanks again.

    UPDATE:
Actually, I just had a quick look at the DCRAW site, and without digging too deeply it appears that with a couple switches, DCRAW can extract EXIF data.
So maybe it can be included as part of the Designer Pro implementation in the future.

For now I'll just revert to other apps to extract this info.

PS. Thanks for the rawworkflow.com link.
