Default Takes so long to upload

Why does XWD6 take so long to upload....I only changed a bit of text on the index page and its uploading the whole site again...... thought if i had the upload only changed files checked it would be quicker.

    You would think.

Not sure why this would happen. Do you have a high speed connection or a dial up?

You might try an external FTP program and see if that is any faster.

Often times if you are only changing text on a page you can just republish to the desktop and copy the HTML for the changed page.

Mike does the page contain any images?

Large file sizes for images may be the cause of the long upload time.

and my internet is 10meg every day all day ...with virgin fibre optic cable.
I use dreamweaver sometimes to upload and that is lot faster .
Guess i will have to carry on with that way.

Mike your connection speed does not indicate your web host can accept at that speed. If the host is experiencing a lot of traffic the server can be slow in responding, causing your computer to wait for a response.

Or there may be any number of bottle necks along the "information highway" that can make FTP transfer slow.

Using FTP your computer sends a block of data and waits for the server to acknowledge it. If the server receives the data but the CRC does not match it sends a NAK (negative acknowledgement) so your computer resends the same block of data until it receives an ACK (acknowledgement). No timeout will occur as long as an ACK or NAK are received within acceptable time constraints.

None or all of the above information may apply, but is simply FYI.

You may want to use DebugView after using XaReg to enable FTP trace to see what communications are actually taking place between your computer and your web host's server.

    See the thread http://www.talkgraphics.com/showpost...87&postcount=2
for information about using DebugView and XaReg to see what is happening during an FTP session.

Try using XaReg to change the FTP connection type to the same that Dreamweaver is set to use.

Yes, the whole point to XaReg is that it safely toggles some of the hidden registry settings for Xara software. This is much safer than manually editing the resgistry.
XaReg also allows you to reset the defaults.

    Guys

I have the same problem even though my WD6 desktop is actually connected to the web server. If you use the "Export Website" routine it re-publishes everything even if you only changed a one-letter spelling mistake on one image-free page.

Make sure you have enabled 'Re-publish changed files only'
Simply correcting a text error on an image free page definitely should not re upload the entire site with this enabled.
