Object...make as top object

In Adobe Illustrator CS4, or AI-10, it is possible to distort a jpg into another shape by placing an outline drawing on top of it and going OBJECT/MAKE shape as top object.
...but I only have AI-9, and I can't find this tool here...can anyone advise me please?
I cannot afford to buy CS4, or 10....I only have 9.

Don't know if this helps your problem but yes you can. Place your bitmap in your drawing and then draw your shape which of course must be closed then select all and from the Object menu go down Envelope Distort and go out to "Make with top object". You could also use with Wrap but you are then restricted to the predefined shapes. Now my memory is not good enough for ver. 9 this is taken from CS which I had to reinstall but I think it didn't change but what they did do in Ver. 10 was to bring in Mesh and then in CS to bring in the 3D mapping for bitmaps. Hope this helps. Come back to me if you want something fully masked with bitmap.
