An Irregular Shape Problem

Hi All.

I had noticed this before so It's time I asked someone for an answer.

If I draw a rectangle, clone it (CTRL+K), make it another colour and then shrink it whilst holding the shift key. What happens is that what now looks like a border is not the same all the way round.

If you draw a regular shape like a square, then there is not a problem.

I wanted to draw a shield with a regular border around it.
Well, I'm sure you can all see that my method does not work.
I thought about a thick line around the shield but that does not really work.

I'm sure there is an easy answer?!

Hi Rik,

In Xtreme, an inflated (or shrunken) shape which follows a parent shape perfectly can be achieved using the contour tool.



Though your shield has rogue nodes on the top and bottom intersections which you must remove first.

Thanks for that. I knew there would be an easy answer. Just shows how many times I have used the contour tool. I use the bevel tool quite a lot but not the contour tool.

It seems that I need to draw the shield properly in the first place.
Even after removing the unnecessary nodes, I still couldn't use the contour tool on the shield.

Hi Sledger.

I redid the shield and applied contour to it.
Changed the number of contour steps to 1.

That did the trick.
