    the first issue does not surprise me in the least

    by putting the drop shadow onto the custom brush line you have, in a sense, 'locked' it for most subsequent edit brush operations - bearing in mind that a custom brush line is a compound object, not a normal line

    I do not think they were designed to be manipulated 'after the event'

    by this I mean that the compound object should be made up first - ie all the edit brush operations done first - and then effects added last

    if you then need something different you start again


    no time to check out the second issue, but in general terms I think it might be much of the same

    just double checked [issue one] - taking off the effect [drop shadow] enables you to manipulate edit brush options again..

    so this puts it firmly in the same category as the 3D extrude, mould tool, blend tool... IMO

    ie you need to remove effects to re-edit, by and large
