You can activate averaging at least in the normal Eyedropper tool (didn't try with the levels tool "Grey point" etc.) by setting the following registry key to a non-zero value:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\XtremePro\6.1\Opti ons\Rendering\EyeDropperAverage
That doesn't give you a marquee selection or so to work with, but at least seems to use a few pixels around the mouse cursor. Not too useful, but maybe a start
