    Default WD6 Text Alt?

I can't seem to get this to work. Have searched everywhere but nothing comes up.

When I upload I can't get the text alt to work on any images in any browser. Am I doing something wrong or is this a software issue?

Use the 'Pop-up title' (tip), this is what you're expecting on mouse hover in a browser I expect?

ALT text is normally hidden (older versions of IE treated it as a popup tip, but no longer)

You probably expect to see the ALT text as a tool-tip pop-up in the browser,, right?
This is incorrect. According to W3C standard ALT attribute should not be used for this purpose by the browser. Internet Exporer is the only browser that breaks this rule and shows ALT as a pop-up text. So in WD6 we had implemented a workaround that forces it to behave correctly.
If you want a pop-up text, it should be placed in the "Show pop-up text (Title)" field on the "Mouse-over" tab of the Web properties dialog. This will work in all browsers.
Alternatively, if you prefer the way WD5 works, you can disable this feature in the registry by setting this key to zero:
    Code:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\HTMLFilter\3.0\ExportEmptyTitles

    Thanks.

I understood that it is (was) a way to add a bit of weight to google rankings as their spiders will pick up the (Alt) text from the image and class it as text content/description. From this (possibly inaccurate understanding!) I have used it in the past to add key words etc. Its only from this perspective that i'm bothered about it. Do you think it really matters as far as adding weight to page ranking?

Edited to note: noticed that the alt text does still show in the coding even if not when hovering over image in a browser. Also the code below has the 'Mouse Over pop-up text' option which does show in the browser and in the coding as 'Title'

    !.......<img class="xr_ap" src="index_htm_files/11.png" alt="logo chip inn takeaway newport pagnell" title="logo chip inn takeaway newport pagnell" style="left: 19px; top: 22px; width: 306px; height: 153px;"/>........!

It was and it certainly is and will be for the foreseeable future.

No, that is a perfectly correct understanding.
I have used it in the past to add key words etc.
That is a correct technique. You should continue to do so.

So doesn't it work in WD6 from this perspective?
Do you think it really matters as far as adding weight to page ranking?
YES! Not only it matter for search engines, it's also required for accessibility reasons - if the visitor can't see the picture, his browser can use alt property to describe the content.
Edited to note: noticed that the alt text does still show in the coding even if not when hovering over image in a browser.
Exactly. And that's a correct behavior. It is exported to be used by search engines and accessibility software.
Also the code below has the 'Mouse Over pop-up text' option which does show in the browser and in the coding as 'Title'
Yes, you have to use this for text pop-ups.

    So is there a problem?

The site was uploaded on the 1st of April I think so 5-6 days to get indexed and ranked (bottom) page1 by Google seems quick to me?. Obviously its the clicks from this forum which have made this happen.........superb!

Maybe double posting but i'll get this info up on the web gallery thread if thats ok?, might help encourage any people who are holding back from posting their sites (the fact that posting a new site on the forum can do wonders with google etc)

Errr... The Xara Web Gallery is an opportunity for members to show off there personal Web Designer or Xtreme created websites. It should not be regarded an open invitation to use TG for posting commercial and business websites only for the purpose of SEO/ranking/linking.

Remember, all submissions are moderated, so any spamming will not make it.
