Default Good books for fantasy art backgrounds?

    Hi,

I'm a game designer, and I'm about to start a project that will require a lot of background scenes of countryside, cities etc (modern day), I will need to create these in photoshop (from scratch, not photographic) and I was wondering if there are any good books that cover creating scenes/backgrounds in photoshop?

    thanks for any advice!

Thanks, but I've done google searches and it mostly gives you photo re-touching tutorials, what I need is creating scenes from scratch, with no begining photographic image....I wondered if there were any books that covered that, there's plenty on creating characters but I can't find any on scenes/backgrounds.

what do you mean 'from scratch' ?

    take a look here:

    http://speckyboy.com/2009/09/02/50-i...for-photoshop/

now this is probably as good as it gets - but photographic references are used nevertheless

if you don't want to use any kind of photographic reference, then you surely need to be able to draw from purely from imagination - can you do this? - this is quite seperate from what software you choose to use to implement it...

    If I were you....

best resource is youtube... you get a lot of artists delving into digital painting and showing their use with photoshop.

Massive Black videos are good to watch on there, a lot of their concept artists give a few secrets to their works.
