Woodwater perhaps what you are looking for is a Fill with color Tool.
Most bitmap editors like MS Paint, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Photo-Paint, etc. have such a tool. It has a different name in each program but essentially it is used to fill closed shapes (anything with lines that enclose an area).
A simple way to test to see if this functionality is to your satisfaction is to open one of your scanned comics within MS Paint. MS Paint is installed with every version of Windows.
With your comic in the workspace select the Fill with Color Tool. It looks like a can of paint that is tilted to the left and ready to spill red paint (in Vista the color is red). Select a color and then click the cursor within an enclosed area of your comic.
Your lines within the comic must completely enclose the space for even a single pixel that is open will allow the fill to spill over to adjacent areas.

I know the second. Thanks. Thers a few on Youtube too.
Gimps has got video tutorial on their site as well.
Here is a link to a simple Xara website I did for a friend who draws his own comics, including entire comic books, all done by hand: http://www.beholdcomics.com/
I'm sure he would be willing to answer any questions you may have concerning costs, etc. He's been doing it for close to 50 years.

[QUOTE=handrawn;357615]incidently - there are two approaches to the scanning issue:
1) to draw your comic page 'panel by panel' [or sets of] rather then the page all in one go - this way you can reduce the area to be scanned at any one time, by drawing your panels on seperate board
Handrawn, since I`m inking in Xara there`s no need to draw my comics in a larger size than it will be published.
It's a brave person that claims an original joke .....
Now character and style, that's a different matter entirely .....

Hi
I`m not able to import files from Xara into Gimps, dont know why.
I want to ink at Xara and color at Gimps.
I did some coloring of comics like Bob Hahn teaches on Xara but its so time-consuming that I prefer coloring in Gimps or Paint
