    Default slicing transparent shadow

    Hello,

I have a rectangle with a shadow. I want to export this shadow only as a transparent gif or png with a height of 1px and width of 10 px. When i slice it the regular way (ie. put a line of 10 x 1px behind and export this line), it is not transparent but fades into the background color. How can i make it fade into transparent,

A 10 pixel by 1 pixel rectangle is rather small.

Have you tried using a rectangle of that size without a shadow and no outline. Apply a 0.3 or 0.4 pixel feather and a flat transparency. Export as png, true color + alpha.

ok i have not explained myself properly, sorry. I want this 10 x 1 rectangle to be the background of a larger cell in a table of a website, so this 1px high image will be repeated over the entire height of the table and thus form the shadow.

I cannot think of anything you can use in that case. A repeating object would have telltale banding.

Are you wanting to highlight a selected cell in the table?

no, i am placing a picture with a shadow around it. This picture must easily updated by the customer so the picture itself cannot contain the shadow.
I have a table with 3 rows and 3 cells. The middle cell containing the picture, and all (small) border cells will for the shadow.

I have created a rectangle of 10x1, and gave it a linear transparency. When i export this it is only transparent in PNG true+alpha, but not in PNG 256 (white)?

What Xara product are you using? If you are using any of the programmes which have the ability to publish and export to html. there is no need to slice and dice.
    Design is thinking made visual.
