Remove a white background from a graphic with Xara Xtreme?

I know this topic has been covered before, but I haven't seen a simple solution to this. I have a graphic that I am copying off a web site. Specifically, it's the "tongue" logo for the Rolling Stones. When I copy it from the site, I get the logo, but I 'm also getting a white rectangular background along with it. I'd like to remove this white and be left with just the logo itself. For those of you who know what it looks like, it's irregular in shape so I can't just make a simple square or circle around it and use the "Combine Shapes" then "Slice Shapes" feature in Xara to remove the white background from it... which I do use frequently for square or round objects. I know that I could use the Freehand or Shape Editor Tools to trace the outside of it, but my tracing with the mouse is not so smooth. Is there any easy way to get rid of the white background and just leave the "tongue"?

I've seen an old colleague of mine who uses a Mac be able to do this with his program (not sure what it was, maybe Illustrator or Photoshop???). He made it look easy and did it fast.

Most definitely a copyright violation. How are you planning to use the image?

The easiest way to drop out the background is with Mehdi Eraser Classic (Live Effect Tool).

Because the graphic also has white in the image you will have to add a crude white shape behind that covers the white areas.

It's an easy trace and slice job, perfect for you to practice your skills, however - why not just use a vector sample in the first place?

No no no... I'm not using it for anything commercial. I just want to put it as the background on one of my computers.

By the way Sledger, the "Vector Sample" web site you referenced had multiple popups appear on my screen with all sorts of viruses attempting to install on my computer. Not sure what was going on there.

Seriously doubt it's anything to do with that site.
Brands Of The World is a very well known and often used resource for folks in the sign industry. I've personally made use of it for at least four years
I'd check your PC for hijackers/malware.

I also use Brands Of The World at least weekly, as does my sign maker. Well respected site and never a problem.
