    I take a different approach.

I make the placeholder the same size as the Flash animation.

In the place holder, rather than putting in the swf I put in the relevant html.

Of course, one has to then manually put the swf into the upload folder.

This works perfectly. Easier to arrange stuff on a page when you can see exactly what size everything is.

Incidentally - I set the placeholder image as 'No Line.

There's ALWAYS more'n one way of doing things in Xara.

"Intbel" ... "Can't" is not an option.

Compliance is futile. Resistance is futile. Just do your own thing an' ignore 'em.

I also make the placeholder the same size as the flash file.
    Then just do:
    Web Properties-Placeholder-Replace with flash

Yes. This is what I do too - set the placeholder to the same dimensions, then just use Web Properties-Placeholder-Replace with flash

It's very weird. And I haven't come across this previously when importing flash into a web page.

I've rechecked the html that's produced when the flash is displayed as expected and compared that to the html when the flash is displayed at 1/4 size, and I can't see a difference. Both set the dimensions for the flash correctly (in 4 consecutive lines of code).

At the end of the day, I've archived the offending files and might get a chance to dig into them some more over the coming (Easter) weekend.

For now, I have a working version. So I'm putting this anomaly aside. Thanks for your suggestions.

(Besides, I see that the new version of Web Designer supports drag-and-drop of flash files. So I must explore all its new features. )

Yes the Drop Flash is a very cool feature!
It even creates an image for the placeholder.
Not the correct size but easily fixed.
Then just before export just drag a color to the placeholder
image and you wont have the extra graphics.

You can delete those placeholder images.
I thought this was fixed in the last Xtreme 5 update, but just testing now I see it isn't fixed for .swf
Placeholder images don't need to be exported because they are only defining an area for the code.
They can remain in the bitmap gallery, but no need for them to be exported.

I was of the understanding that it is best to keep the placeholder given that it should be displayed when the browser does not have flash (not that I've tested this, or been aware of any installations without flash).

Good point, but yes - the Adobe flash plugin required prompt alerts users they need install flash if they don't already have it installed. Browsers are more intelligent today.

You can delete those placeholder images.
I assume you mean from the folder and not the canvas.
If so then you have to delete every time you update.
A colored placeholder is only a couple kb so that doesn't bother me.
