Default Newbie Needs Help with images

    Hi everyone

I have some pictures (JPG) uploaded from camera to Mac, then saved onto a USB. When I put the USB into a PC and try to view/open them all I see is a small box with a red cross inside. Can anybody help? I thought JPG files would open on any platform; what have I done to foul things up?

    Appreciation in advance

    Welcome to the Forums,

    Yes, JPG is platform independent.
So my question would be, are you sure you copied the files or maybe only the links to the files?

Thanks for the prompt response. I'm not sure why the images would have links - please explain. It's very possible but I don't think so. The images came off the camera onto the mac, then I copied them to the USB. Do the images need to leave the Mac when they go to the USB?

    By links, I mean shorcuts.

I don't believe they were shortcuts, no. Is that what a red cross in a box usually means?

It usually means the link to the image is broken because the file does not exist at the location being referenced.

Can you attach one of the said files off the USB stick?

I'd rather not, they are artistic for Art Project (NOT porn). All the images have their camera created names e.g. DSCF2543.JPG and are approx 2MB in size. Would links be this size?

    No they would not.
How are you trying to view them?

    Double click(MS Picture Manager)

Right Click (open with varietyof software)

    Even tried I.E browser

    All methods result in same

Even tried conversion software, but just get various error messages

I'd suspect corrupted images then, perhaps the USB stick is iffy or you removed it before the write was done? If they view fine on the Mac, try emailing them to yourself and pick them up on the PC (if both are web connected)
