Hello and thank you Burpee, BP and buckobeck for looking and your kind comments.
the contest holder said they liked my work but not really what they had in mind or the style they were looking for.
So I have been busy for several hours today working on another entry and thought I would add it here. I put a lot more work into this one and I like it better. Still dont know if I'll win the contest they are kind of a gamble but I like to illustrate and make these kind of characters. So if nothing else it was good fun and good practice!

Bruce, nice job. I like your second attempt much better. Except, that is, for the light colored ellipse behind the Mascot King. I find it very distracting. Maybe a circular or elliptical fill applied to the background would work better? Or maybe make it larger. After taking another look, I still find it distracting, but my initial perception of the light ellipse is that it is a veil attached to the crown and flowing/trailing behind the Mascot King.

    Just a thought,
    Harry

The first guy is cute and his body is well done but I like the entirety of the second fellow. The crown is better and I like that he's more of a modern day man and his face is beaming with happiness.

I agree about the halo behind the king, it looks a bit like a wedding veil at the size and position it is.
