More weirdness creating menu buttons Xara Pro 4.0.1.5601

I can't seem to get this to work

I made a nice background and managed to get some buttons made. They look like this:

I select the top button, including the text. I get the web/menu bar thingy <ctrl><F8>. When I hover over the Create/Delete states, it looks like this:

Then I click it, and this is what I see:

So I am choosing the "mouse off" state.

But then the whole thing falls apart.

It says that it cannot create it because I had not selected the button, which I had done.

Just for fun, I exported it to see what I would get. You might try the same thing. It appears to direct the browser to go to a garbled version of what I had entered as the web destination.

I am uploading the XAR file.

I don't feel that I've been overly articulate, but I hope I can get some help.

I have moved your thread the the Talk Webb >> Web Designer/Xtreme forum where this question belongs.

I no longer use version 4 so can't really offer much help without re familiarizing myself, hopefully someone will come along and answer your questions.

Hi Alan,

You are using the old Button and Navbar Tool. That tool is not very intuitive and has been deprecated since Xara X¹ was replaced with the first version of Xtreme.

I would recommend you follow Gary's May 2008 tutorial http://www.xaraxone.com/tutorials/may08/. You can keep your existing buttons but rather than try getting what you need using the Button and Navbar Tool use the techniques Gary teaches for Xtreme 4.

Thanks for the link. Yes, I found the official "Button and Navbar Tool" quite clunky and unreliable. I did not want to say that because all-in-all, I love Xara. My graphics needs are not extensive, and Xara and Paintshop pretty much have everything I need.

I'll check out that link and post back here if I have further questions or problems.
