Lightbulb President Trading Cards - Daughter's Civics Class Project

Part of my daughter's recent Civics class project was to create a minimum of 5 President Trading Cards. After she struggled with MS Word trying to get them done I finally convinced her to give Xara Xtreme a try. Needless to say, after learning a few of the 'basics' I think she did such a good job that I'd post the result for everyone else to see.

I gave a hand with learning the Xtreme basics, some layout suggestions, a little advanced editing, and the final-final layout so that they could be glued together and cut correctly into trading cards. My wife also lent a hand with the fact gathering part of the project for the card backs. The sheet for the front of the cards was printed on premium luster photo paper while 67 lb. cardstock was used for the card backs. 3M Photo Mount Spray Adhesive was used to glue the card front and back sheets together. Except for a minor mishap with the straight edge and X-acto knife on one of the cards, we think they came out exceptionally nice.

We don't have the finished cards anymore as they were turned in Friday morning with the rest of the project. If my daughter gets the trading cards back I'll be sure to take a picture and post it, as well. Or maybe I'll just print out another set, cut 'em out, and fire up the camera. We'll see.

    Enjoy,
    HayTay & TT

    Bill,

I've passed on your message as she's currently sitting less than 6' from me. She was both surprised and appreciative of your comment. Maybe that will encourage her to try doing some other things with Xtreme.

    Thanks,
    Harry & TT

Obvioulsy you're a good teacher because these cards turned out excellently.

That's what dads are supposed to do, Harry.

Congratulations to your daughter and her coach.

I am encouraged to see Civics still being taught somewhere. In most cases it has gone the way of Music Appreciation and Art History.

That is a great use of Xara and is so much easier to do than any other software program. Made a great family project too!

Thanks everyone. My daughter is quite pleased with positive feedback you've given for her trading cards. Hopefully the teacher will be just as impressed. I told her to be sure and let me know first thing when the teacher passes out the grades for this project. We're keeping our fingers crossed for a good result. This was only one part of a three part project.

Another project is to be handed out this Friday.

    We shall see,
    TT and Harry
