    Default Infographics with xXtreme

    I didn't know that xara released the .xar documentations: I was pondering if could be possible to write some macro to generate the graphics from data sources. That could lead to some cool infographics use:

    Not that I am aware of is the answer to your question.

    I know what you are referring to but Xtreme is not really set up to process and replace data assigned to various fields.

    I have no idea what I'm talking about either...: the general idea here was to just check the .xar format docs and see if it is possible to create a simple script (python should do the trick) to create a basic set of shapes based on numeric values (bars, circles, pies...) and then open the resulting file in Xtreme and complete the graphics with all the program goodies. Ill give a look to the documentation and Ill update here in case Ill come up with something

    If I have properly understood it, you try to provide script-steered graphic arts with Xara. I tap sometimes that this does not go.
    Long ago I used of this Command-Line tool, maybe this helps you.

    ImageMagick
    yes, imagemagick(s) is pretty popular to generate graphics on request on web applications. What I want to try is pretty similar but just a bit more low level since here I should write directly inside a .xar description; but I still have to read the xara's .xar documentation [http://site.xara.com/support/docs/webformat/spec/] so this could lead to anything , just speculations.
    It should be something more similar to the way php can generate .pdf on the fly.
    Thank you for pointing ImagiMagick out anyway: great graphic tool set

    progress update:
    the docs seem pretty complete and straighforward (and make me appreciate even more the Xara's programmers). The .xar format is pretty smart designed (I didn't know for example that is possible to begin to 'render' a document even if is not completed downloaded).
    The format is usually compressed [zlib] but luckily they (the developers) leaved the uncompressed format avaible in Xtreme [.wix] to make easier the debug (geek love all over ). For my purpose is more than enough: should not be any problem to write what I have in mind. Just matter of time and motivation now
    here an extract of how a naked .xar look:
    ...
    {152,4,L(750)}
    {0,0}
    {0,0}
    {46,17,L(-13),D(100),U(10),B(1)}
    {47,8,C(0,240000)}
    {0,0}
    {4070,0}
    {1,0}
    {4087,4,L(0)}
    {0,0}
    {0,0}
    ...
    kudos to xara's developers: I suppose programming in Gaddensden place give them some extra love to spread...

    Good to see someone with a personal interest to do some experimental developing.
    Please keep us up to date, but please not in this thread or forum this is after all the Xara Art Gallery forum.
    In the absence of a developers chat board, the Xara Xtreme forum would be most appropriate discussion area.
