Xara Xtreme 5 running at snail pace could you please help

It’s been excellent but it’s now going slower and slower

I’ve got 2GB ram and 6GB free space on the HD

How often do you shut down and then restart your Computer Clive?

Clive may I suggest you do a reboot.

When I was a network administrator I recommended a minimum of once a week to perform a reboot if not a complete shutdown and restart.

Personally I shutdown my systems every night and power them up every morning.

Over time every operating system (yes even Unix and Linux systems) need to reboot to refresh memory pointers, the stack, and other memory resident information.

When I was the south eastern data center administrator for a large corporation my Unix systems were rebooted every night as part of the "Night Run" process where reports were generated, backup copies were made of the databases, and updates installed.

Very slow application operation can be a symptom of a faulty hard drive, a symptom of an overheating GPU (graphics chipset), overheating CPU, leaking/bloated main capacitors, malware infections or a whole gaggle of other common computer faults and issues which are almost impossible to diagnose (then solve) without hands-on inspection.

When was the last time you cleaned out your PC?....as in physical dirt and dust on the components inside it?

My only recommendation is for quality *new* parts which are carefully (and tidily) assembled, a correctly installed OS and hardware drivers and with only the software and applications you really need.
I also recommend you buy the best you can afford.
