Unhappy Entire page position shifts - WD 5

I am working on a new site in WD and have noticed a problem. I created the main page layout, and then just copied that page and added content to each copy for the other pages, my question is, I have 13 pages that all have the exact same width, and are placed at the exact same X position (4.1), but then you upload the pages and when you click from page to page, the pages shift back and forth by a few pix instead of being in the exact same position as they show they are in WD???

I have gone so far as to redo all the pages making sure I do not alter the overall width, and that they are in the exact same position by selecting everything on a page (ctrl-a), and then checking the width and the x postions, that shows all ok, and then they still shift back and forth after uploading??? When I say back and forth, I mean the entire pages shift a little left and right in the browser window.

Anyone else ever have this problem? Thanks for any insight on this.

I think the problem is in scroll bars. When you open the page that is longer (vertically) than a browser window then vertical scroll bar is added effectively reducing the window width and moving all the centered content to the left by a half width of the scrollbar width.

If it is shifting left on long pages and right on short pages then it is probably due to the way the browsers handle the scroll bar. Just rummaging for a solution brb.

your right, it's just the scroll bar that does it, I can't believe that I didn't see that, I was looking for a more complicated cause.

    Thanks for the help!

I think I am going to have each page display the scroll bar even if it doesn't need it to over come this.

Doesn't work for me, XX5 and FF3.5. I copied the rectangle with placeholder code onto a long page (placeholder named <head>). Page still shifts. Any suggestions? Does it need to be on all pages?

Edit: In looking at the source code, the code is not displayed in the <head> area. Should it be?

    Hi Jim

The place holder needs to be on all short pages. It forces the browser to see the page as slightly bigger than the window which makes it add a scrollbar.

Edit: Yes the code should be in the head section.
