Default Linking to a URL from within a body of text

    Hi,
When I put a url in a body of text and then select it, link and then set up web props to go to the url it seems that the entrie body of text becomes a link - clicking anywhere in the entire text box will go to the specified url. Big problem is when you have more than on link in the text box, clicking takes you to the last url that you specified.
I looked in help which said 'secect text, press link, set up url in web props' but it doesn't seem to work when you go to preview website.
I know that i am doing something wrong but just what.......??
    Regards,

To assign a link to only the words you want, use the Text Tool to select only those words. Then use the Link tab of the Web Properties dialog to assign the URL.

    Hi Bill,
That don't work for me. Highlighting the text and then hitting link and then going through the link dialogue just makes the whole text body a link.
I tried taking the text out of a text box and just using a text colomn and it seemed to work OK BUT, in order to make my text fill the area when being viewed I tried to group the text - then the text size showed up ok in the browser but the links disappeared. Seems like you can't put text links in a grouped paragraph.
I am still a bit confused as to why it is necessary to group text other than to turn it into a graphic so that it is unaffected by the browser text set-up but it works - - -other than to bung up the link setup.
    Regards,

Sure you can't! Grouped text is converted to a single bitmap. Single bitmap can have only one link applied to it. To have a link applied to a region of text, it has to be exported as a text, not image.

    Hi John,
I realise that but why does a block of text that fills its space in the .xar file look much smaller in the review? The line endings stay the same but it just takes up about 2/3s of the available space. Group it and all is well - except you can't have a link in the text. Good looking text or links? That seems to be the choice.

How can I tell without the xar file?
Actually it shouldn't, so I have to look at the design to find out what goes wrong.

Yes, how can bitmap look differently in different programs?

Unless you use an imagemap and define a region.
But in XWD,X5, it's simple to create a 99% transparent rectangle above the text you need to be the hot-spot for the link.

I should also have shown same example using a non-web-safe font.

No, this would be a link applied to a region, not a bitmap.

Hi Peebs, some times you have select "Text" go to Arrange>"bring to Front" to have it work iin preview.
