    Talking Re: cph

    Hi

seems that I have been "fooled" by a data issue as well as a conversion task. 10 out of 10 for finding the article on corel site I did asearch for cph and found one article saying that coreldraw v9 has a flter that openscph files. However the article link just posted seems to cast doubt on that possibnility.#

Either way because (thanks to one and all ) my two files have been tried on several versions of PH it seems that they are corrupted in some way on the cd given to me. So on Monday I'll collect the dead hard drive and hang it in my old pc and see if I can read the files there.

In the dim and distant past I had a similar issue ona database and discovered to my consternation that it was so old that it wouldn't work on any hard drive over 2gb. I'd copied it to a 3.2gb ( yes it was that long ago) Another thing to try

thanks one and all and ---- watch this space

    cheers

It's true, CorelDRAW v9 does have an import filter for CPH files. I have CorelDRAW v9 and attempted to open both files for you but, alas, to no avail. Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9 also chokes on the files with a similar error message.

    No luck here,

    HI

Thanks for that, can I impose on yout good nature ?

I've attached a file emailed to me by someone who has CPH could you try to open it and let me know. If it opens it then I'm one step up the hill.

    Thanks

    Ian,

How do you know I have a good nature? Just kidding.

Yes, as you can see by my attachments, CorelDRAW 9 opened the test file without any problem(s). The first just shows a screencapture, while the XAR file is a copy and paste from CD9 to Xara Xtreme Pro 5. The vectors copy and past into XXP5 nicely and are fully editable, including the text. Woo-Hoo!

Let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Cheers,
    Harry

That's a bummer. Are you sure? I find it hard to believe that all 800 are corrupt unless the computer they were generated on had a virus or the hard drive was failing in the area(s) where the CPH files were stored. If you sort the CPH files by date, then try to open some of the older ones vs. some newer ones then can you get any of them open?

    Just a thought,

    Hi

my project for tomorrow is to collect the "dead hard Drive" from the client, hang it on my test PC and to take it from there.

I agree with you seems fairly remote but .....

    cheers

    Ian,

Tried to open with my version - Corel Print House 2000 (which I believe is Print House 5) but although the files show as a thumbnail in the "open file" dialogue, I am getting an error - "Unexpected File Format" and a crash (probably the same as you are). I believe that rather than being corrupt these files have been created on a newer version of the programme.

Let us know if you manage to open them.

    Hi

    jusy found this via google.

Having tried renaming the files to .tif and failed to open them I'm off to search for printhouse v6 working on the principle that if v5 fails then 6 should work

    cheers

    Ian

"In earlier versions of Corel, CPT files are TIF files with the CPT
extension and supported in ThumbsPlus. In Corel 7 and later, CPT files
are another proprietary format that can only be supported through
    Corel's OLE server.
