Uninstall d/l version before installing from disc?

Hi,

I have been lurking in the corridors for a while and think it is time I said hello.

My name is Beverley and my main hobby is computer graphics. I have been using Xtreme for about a year, having been introduced to it by Derek (Masque) when he posted some fantastic entries in the challenges at Graphics.com.

I have only been using it for simple stuff - nothing like the amazing artwork I have seen in the gallery here.

This morning I received my X5 disc. Do I have to uninstall the downloaded version before installing the disc version?

Welcome Beverley and we are glad you have come out of the shadows.

Just do a normal install from the disc. It will automatically uninstall the prior version.

But you will need your serial number handy because you will be asked for it again on the disc install. At least I think you will. I was.

It did ask for the serial number again. It installed with no problem and everything seems to be working perfectly.

Just an extra note of caution to Gary's answer. I installed over the DL and found that the mask shortcut was missing. When I removed the DL and reinstalled it was there. Maybe unconnected but check and see if the mask shortcut is present.
(Glad I managed to inspire your interest by the way. Its nice to know someone looks).

Derek - it obviously is connected - you are right, it wasn't there. Nor would it open by checking the box in the Control Bars menu - just got a blank square.

It was in the button palette and I dragged it to its place next to the magnet though it won't sit right next to the magnet and leaves a button size blank space.

It does seem to be working OK, but I will keep it in mind in case of problems later.

May I ask which version of windows you and Derek are using?

I installed from the CD over the DL version and the mask icon is still on my toolbars. I'm running Vista Ultimate 32bit edition. I have UAC (User Account Control) disabled.

I had the blank spot on the tool bar but I didn't have the icon in the icon pallet hence the phaffing about uninstalling stuff. It just meant that I had to redo all my toolbars how I like them, but alls well now.

XPproSP3. I avoided VISTA waiting for W7(even then I'll wait and see how it goes down)
