Cut and Paste...Pulling My Hair Out!!!

I haven't used PSP since Jasc had it. If I remember correctly, Cutting from one graphic window and pasting into another was a piece of cake!!

Now, I'm getting nowhere!!!

I have two raster graphics. I want to simply paste one into the other. When I copy the graphic I want to paste into the clipboard, select the graphic I want to paste into and do a "Paste as tranparent selection", it switches to some other window for layers. That's where I'm stuck. If I X out of this window, the pasting did not happen.

HELP!!!!!

I don't have paint shop but most paint programs paste onto a new layer so you can move the thing around, add a layer mask and or experiment. etc.. then you merge the layers together when all is done.

I guess that's what I'm having problems with (layers).

I'm pretty sure in the old version, I didn't have to mess with layers. All I did was
cut and paste and voila....

Now, it's a pain.

Can anyone point to a cut and paste tutorial?

I'm beginning to think that the version of PSP I have (v12.01) does not work in
Vista Home Premium or it could be a 64bit problem.....

Time for another Paint Program???

When I do this in X2 on XP it does paste as a transparent selection and doesn't create a new layer, just a floating selection. When I select none, the pasted image becomes merged with the background. Layers never really come into it with this method. Frankly, I agree with Mike. I prefer to paste things as new layers so they can easily be moved around later if needed.

Was PSP4 the last version that you used prior to X2? PSP5 introduced layers and every version since then has had layers. Don't shy away from them. They're very useful and you'll be glad that you had the patience to learn how to use them.

You could try the attached. As my bullfrog image was a .png selection with alpha transparency from another photo, I pasted it as an ordinary selection.

If you want to copy or cut and paste then paste as a new layer that can also be done by dragging from the layers pallet onto the image.(make sure you can see both images). You can then use the pick or move tool to move the layer around. the move tool was automatically activated in psp 7 but that changed with 8
Paste in to selection needs a selection first.

Paint.NET

Pretty nifty program that does what I want, in a simple way!

You need .NET 3.5 to use it.
