Read of the version in TalkGraphics and purchased. Then downloaded it
pasted in the serial. Still shows "valid serial not entered" in red and "exit program at the bottom". Am I registering when I hit exit or is there something wrong??

If you are certain the serial number is entered correctly the only recourse is to contact Xara support. We are unable to help with software registration problems at TG.
I had the same problem Padito. When copying the code number from the e-mail do not include "P2-" at the beginning

Thanks John I realized that too - but doesn't work with or without.

Are you logged in or running as Administrator?
Did you do the download from your Xara account or the trial version?

I downloaded Trial - Extreme 5 is not available from my account?

Sorry about that my mistake - they used to have download from within your account.
Hopefully they will reply soon, the trial should work ok for 30 days anyway.
