Hi Albacore, yes having commonly used formats on the top of the list is good.

Maybe some kind of separator afterward this bunch and then alphabetical sorting (by description or extension) for the rest would make some sense?

This would be nice...
As a footnote to this idea the content of the upper level could also contain a few (say up to 5) of the most commonly utilized formats from the last 20 used etc, then as well as this the last 2 formats used at all times (or some such weighted formula)
i.e like the fonts list in word where the last ones you used appear up the top.
This way each user/installation would find its balance and the top level would always have a small group of the most current/pertenant choices.

The order of the file formats in the version 7 programs can be customised by editing the FileFormats.xml file that lives alongside the main exe in Program Files\Xara\<Application Name>. It would be wise to make a backup of this file before playing with it. If a line is deleted then the filter may get removed from the dialog or it may just get put at the end (plugin filters should appear at the end but internal filters may well disappear).
