Outline Text displays without outline

In WD the text has a line colour and white fill colour and is in front of a graduated background (used fill tool). In design mode the text displays correctly. However when previewed or exported and viewed in Chrome or IE7/8 there is no outline on the text (see attachments). Additionally there is a loss of intensity in the colour (this is not of great concern).
What have I done wrong?

You need to group the text which forces WD to export it as a .png

Browsers cannot render outlines on websafe fonts.

The apparent differences in the backgrounds is an optical illusion. Both are the same even if they don't look like it.
