Any Suggestions for SEO?

I have almost finished my web site. I am little bit scared about SEO things. I will put page title, describtion, and keywords by using web properties, however, i dont have any idea about what I should do for next steps....?? If you give me advise i would be appreciated.

I of course followed my own advice and my largely abandoned site continues to get over 4.6 million hits a year. (I should add some advertising and start making some money from it . By the way I've had some of my articles plagiarized by 'experts' in branding & marketing so those experts must have thought I was correct in what I've written. (One plagiarizer was a PhD who was the Director of an international association of branding professionals).

Thank you Ross Macintosh. I have checked your web and some questions poped up in my head. There are few descriptions that i did not understand.
My Questions:
1) You use the word ``title tag`` Does that refer ``page title`` in web properties in XWD?
2) Also, the word ``meta tag`` I could not find that in XWD. I saw ``meta tag`` section in dreamviewer but not in XWD.
3) Also, does ``the pagefile name`` have any effect on SEO? positive or negative?
4) How many keyword do you suggest for each page? ( some say 5-6 keyword would be OK, other say put as many as you want )
5) how about keyword phrases! Let say ``electrical contractor`` will be my keywors phrases. Am I going to put anything between these two words?
