After successfully running my pages on the Puppy Linux live disk using only the PC's ram, I knew the problem had to be with my computer and the C drive.
IE7 was constantly getting the "need to close box", I upgraded it to IE8 and it would open the immediately close.
I ran AV and Adaware scans, tried a system restore and SFC all to no avail.
As a last resort I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled the OS with the XP recovery disk and now all seems to be working fine.
I suspect that IE7 somehow became corrupt and affected Opera and Firefox which imports IE settings, (most strange as I never use IE other than to test a web page)
What I cannot understand is how and why the problem has migrated to my wife's Vista laptop, unless it's through the wifi.
Again, thank you all for your assistance.
Bob
