Flash Animations and XWD; general overview of interoperability

It is clear to me about embedding flash into a web page via placeholders.

I also understand how to create objects in flash to execute frame control within the flash movie.

What I am not sure about is whether XWD can set up links to control the playing of flash content; for example trigger a specific frame in a flash movie (assuming that the flash movie was created by a Xara product).

Conversely, would there be a way to trigger an action in flash to impact the execution of a XWD created Web page. For example, click on a object in a flash movie to go to a specific page or execute a PopUp layer?

A general understanding of basic interoperabiltiy between the two, if there is any, is what I looking for. If someone has specific examples demonstrating this, then perhaps those could be posted separately in another thread.
