I thought the examples at the site did a good job of showing the creative benefit. I played with several of my own images with less impressive results. While I agree it is quite possible to do such photo manipulations in Xara Xtreme (and perhaps Xara-WD) I think there is still value to this on-line tool. It makes it easy.
Looking at their sample images I did find myself thinking such manipulations could be handy for larger 'splash' type graphics on websites.
