When playing videos on your web site what is the best procedure?

    1. The video starts playing automatically when you open the web site

    2. The video has no controls on the screen

    3. Click on an arrow to start the video

How come some videos start in the middle instead at the beginning? The only time it starts at the beginning is when you click the stop button and start
    over again.

    Thanks
    Sheila

    Hi Sheila,

I have no experience placing videos in web pages but my personal preference is to have controls on the page so I can start the video if I choose to do so.

I'd also rather have controls and be able to decide for myself if I want the video to play.

    Controls and do not autoplay,
just like music,it must be the viewers choice.
Some sites have flash advertising and an video auto-playing,
    it bogs down on resources(cpu)
many viewers might not want to wait or view your site anymore

Here's a page from one of my sites that has an embeded youtube video. It shows the setup I personally prefer and have used on several pages of the relatively large website. (The site is one I made as a volunteer for my Rotary club). The page was not made in Xara-WD (but could have been ).

Note I didn't make the video "in-your-face" (as they appear typically on many websites) but visually gave it a supporting role. It has controls but I also gave it a caption so a visitor would know what it is about (and search engines too). I also reduced the display size from what is typical. I find the result is a much crisper -more professional- video that is still quite viewable.

    Regards, Ross
