Default How to draw moon shape with pen tool?

I don't seem to be able to draw a moon shape (the sort of moon shape you usually see in children's books - not a full moon which is a circle, but a half moon). My particular moon shape is orientated like a kind of U shape.

I clicked with pen tool, then dragged, then clicked the pen tool again and dragged, which gave me the 1st 'U' shape I needed, but when I try to join the shape I get the curve facing the wrong way.

(Also as an aside: I seem to battle with removing the direction points, if I need to remove a single one)

Any help on this much appreciated!

Not a frequent user of Photoshop, but I would think that something along the lines of the attached would be possible.

Bob has shown you the quick way. just use the shape tool and subtract one shape from another. To delete just one point on a path , first select it then right click and select from the menu delete anchor point.

Thanks Bob & RTW1 for the advice. In Photoshop 7 I was able to intersect the 2 shapes and thereby keep the remaining moonshape, which is great! I would, however, still like to understand how the moon shape could be drawn with the pen tool, because I think it would help me with future drawings as well.

Also, RTW1 told me how to delete an anchor point, but I was wanting to be able to delete a direction line (I know I said point, but I was referring to the end of the direction line). You know those little direction lines that join onto a curve? Sometimes there are 2 of them and sometimes 1. I'm not sure why some anchor points on a curve have 2 direction lines and some have only 1 direction line, and whether that affects the shape of the curve, or not. Though it seems by clicking the curve you can add or subtract direction lines without effect. I guess you only get an effect if you start to drag them. Sorry for the ramble. I'm thinking as I type. Perhaps I'm worrying about direction lines for nothing.

    Thanks and regards
