You could also try dropping some <table HTML into a placeholder.
There are numerous online table generators available.
Copy the results to notepad, add your own text or numbers and paste into a placeholder.
Keeping the table sizes as percentages (width=100% height=100%) will mean that your placeholder size will control be the final size of the table on your page.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but if you are comfortable creating tables in MS Word you can use it to create your tables for your Xara-WD pages. I imagine you could use Excel - but I haven't tried it.
Open the attached .web file and preview. It might give some ideas of some possibilities...
