You will need an index.htm file to prevent the server responding with an FTP index

The index.htm file needs to be in the root directory

    i.e. dominica-red.com/index.htm

By default the sever will add either index.htm or default.htm to your domain name if no files are specified.

If neither exist it will respond with a directory list.

i am afraid i am just not getting what you mean -
like i said i am a real newbie and a half frustrated one
    at that.
is there a way i can change the html format to
graphics once the pages have been uplaoded?
i have used the publich website menu as suggested
in the xara tutorial but it is just not working....

can you tell it to me in a way an idiot would understand
becuse that is how i feel right now!!!

LOL I doubt you are any more confused as I was when I first started

When you go to "dominica-red.com" you get a screen begining with "Index of /". this is just a directory listing that is shown if an index.htm (or default.htm) file is missing. I am assuming that you uploaded your files to somewhere other than the root directory (www.dominica-red.com/) what you need to do is upload your files again making sure that they are not put into any subdirectories - e.g. ftp.dominica-red.com/cgi.bin/ or ftp.dominica-red.com/500.php/

hopefully that should solve the problem

<< will check this thread again later when I get home ~ 1hr >>

BTW what was you typing in the address bar ?
