Copy objects to same location in new layer

this may be an obvious question, but I haven't found a way to copy one object from one layer to another without it pasting right into the middle of the new layer. I see a "move object to layer" function, but not a "copy object to layer" function. Once the object has been soft-grouped, all is well, but I have to move the coordinates of the copy first. What's the easiest way to simply copy an object to another layer and have it retain the original position?

Use Ctrl+Shift+V to paste in place.

It never fails - you always find the answer as soon as you post to a group....I see the <ctrl>+<shift>+<v> option now! Sorry for the unnecessary post!

Here is another technique.

• Select the source objects that you want to duplicate, then hit Ctrl+K (clone, in place).
• Without changing selection, make the target page the active page by clicking its name in the Layer gallery.
• Click the [Move] button at the top of the Layer gallery dialog.

Another thing you may want to consider is before copying the object to another layer, give it a "repeating name". Then if you ever move the object on one layer you can automatically move it on all other pages (Shift+Alt+R).
