Nice idea ... but I couldn't help but notice the erratic mouseover behavior caused by the button separation. Try positioning your buttons right next to each other (at least on the vertical submenus) for improved visual effect.

edit: it looks like the spacing may not be the culprit. will look deeper ...

It took me less than a minute to add above ButtonsTop to a designs gallery template

Open Designs gallery template, delete unwanted buttons, open ButtonsTop,
check all checkboxes in layers gallery. With the selector tool draw rectangle around all buttons, copy & paste in place on designs gallery template. Preview!

I also had a go with your curved buttons, though I made them from scratch and they don't look as good. In fact, I think I should reverse the states as well! Text idea needs a lot of working on too. All good practice.
