Question: "Why the W3C validation is so important?"
Answer: Because html that does not comply with a standard may be rendered wrong, or not rendered at all by the future browsers or new versions of current browsers. The fact that the page looks perfectly in all existing browsers even though in violates standard, is based on quirks - the non standard behavior of the browser. Since this behavior is not standard it may be not implemented in other browsers, while the all standard functionality will be.
The browser generations are not changed very often, so the commercial sites can be upgraded/redesigned in case when new browser fails to render them. It's worse for those sites that are maintained less often.
