2009 Fruit Challenge

A tomato cucumber sandwich? I never tried that one. Sounds good. It is a good looking tomato. So I guess a tomato is a fruit ? Is a cucumber a fruit ?

In the Netherlands a "healthy sandwich"

lettuce,cucumber,tomato,boiled egg,cheese,ham and some more green stuff

Yes it's the fruiting part of a plant with seeds (as SJ mentioned).
It's the reproductive part of the plant, the consequence of pollination.

Cucumbers are of the same family as Watermelon and Canteloupe (Rock Melon) for example.

me too - though I would ditch the egg/tomato/cucumber/green stuff and top the meat and cheese with jalapeno and sour cream, bit of salsa maybe - probably no longer healthy and certainly OT if not OTT

The quote seems eerily apposite here, but probably of little use in everyday life. It has the quality of the great footballing philosopher Eric Cantona, "When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea".
