Also on Linux there is MUSE: http://muse-sequencer.org/

"MusE is a MIDI/Audio sequencer with recording and editing capabilities written by Werner Schweer. MusE aims to be a complete multitrack virtual studio for Linux. "

You might want to have a look at the database at kvraudio.com for low cost or freeware multitrack studio software and synths.

Thank you for the great tips. There are a lot of great software packages for Linux out there. Now, the next thing needed is a little bit more time, to setup the PC.

Ubuntu offers with Ubuntu Studio a modified kernel for intensive audio (in order to reduce audio latency), video or graphics work together with Rosegarden, MusE, LMMS, Hydrogen, Ardour, Audacity and many other packages.

Could it extract voice from a song?
I mean not music but the voice.
