Pressing "Ctrl" key should temporarily activate "Selector Tool".

Use Alt+S to toggle between the active tool and the Selector Tool.
If you have the Pro verson of Xtreme you can also edit the hot key assignments.

It would be more practical with "Ctrl" key and leave Alt+S for some other task assignment.
why - what's special about the ctrl key?
it was always the spacebar that toggled this
in xtreme pro 4 you can set this back this way
much better than ctrl....

There are 10 types of people in this world .... Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
That's one of the first things I changed when I installed XXP4. I rarely, as in nearly ever, use the Push Tool so I swapped the Push Tool key assignment (Space) with the Selector Tool (Alt+S) keyboard shortcut. Using the Space Bar to swap back-and-forth between the current tool and the Selector Tool is definitely a time saver. As an added bonus, the Space Bar is bigger and much easier to 'whack' than the Ctrl key.
If you have Xtreme Pro you can change the keyboard assignments to almost anything you want. That feature, along with a few others, is why I splurged for the Pro version. If you haven't already, maybe you should too.

I use the push tool a lot, but -
if you want the push tool, press and hold the middle mouse button as you drag - actually this is quicker than the space bar - as you need to be holding the mouse to drag in the first place
it was a completely wrong-headed change IMO

Guys this is why Xara provided the 'Customise Shortcut Keys' feature. Each to his Own.
I doubt Petar has even used Xara Xtreme for more than 30 minutes, judging by all of his requested function changes..
