    Default SVG File Import

I have AI 9, and I'm trying to import an SVG file into AI. I don't have much experience with SVG files, so I may be missing something obvious. When I use the "Place" command, or copy, paste; the result is a list of code, which I guess defines the graphic, rather than a graphic. Is there a different method used to import SVG files, or am I missing something else?

    Thanks.

You might try grabbing a copy of the free Inkscape program and exporting the SVG as PDF. Then import the PDF into AI 9. I only have CS3 (AI v13) but this seems to work fine.

There's even a portable version of Inkscape, so you don't even need to install it.

As Steve quite rightly points out it wasn't till CS3 that AI the ability to import SVG files when it introduced tighter integration with Flash. The only thing I can suggest that if you can import it as a PDF and then re-export it as a SVG file or use Inkscape or buy and old copy of FreeHand.
