Default Do I lose gradients if 'replace gradients'?

I'm battling with the way the gradients are managed by Photoshop 7.0

I want to use a gradient I've previously created but can't seem to find it in the Preset display of gradients. I know it's saved in the standard Gradients folder, and I can see it if I choose Load.
How do I choose it if it's not in the Preset display of gradients?

    What I've tried:
    1. In Gradient Editor I found the gradient I previously created by clicking the tiny arrow at the top of editor. I get a message: 'Replace current gradients from redwhitetr70.grd?' I don't want to lose the gradients created so far. Will this happen?

    2. I've also tried to 'Load' the gradient created but I get a message: 'Exceeded the maximum number of gradients. One or more gradients were not read'. What does this mean?

    Thanks for any tips!

    Hi SpinningJennie,

    Welcome to Talkgraphics.

When you replace gradients it does not remove them from your hard drive, only from the currently loaded gradients list.

Many thanks Soquili for the tip and welcome. I have a followup question but perhaps I'll post separately since it veers from the title of topic a bit.
