Could somebody please advise me on a very basic text requirement? I would like to create a text logo and place this on a transparent background so I can effectively overlay onto any graphic I choose.

Create your text logo the simply export it as a transparent .png file, job done
Hi Clarkie,
Welcome to Talkgraphics.
A png with True Color + Alpha transparency can be used over other images with good quality.
If file size is an issue you could use a 256 color gif or 256 color png with transparency but antialiasing will require you to export a new copy of the logo if you change the background image.

Welcome to the Xtreme Conference Clarkie.
Since the text logo is a vector object (an object whose shape is defined by outlines and not pixels), unless you make it into a bitmap, you can place it over anything and it will not have a background.
How do you intend to use the text logo? For printed material? For the web? For both?

I propose using it as a web header and following the advice here has worked perfectly - thanks guys.
An issue you'll find with using transparent .png files "alpha + transparency" is that Internet Explorer 5&6 do not render them properly.
In a post here "first attempt here at a tutorial" http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...t=35306&page=2
There are some links that will help.
I myself still design and code back to IE 5.5 on quite a few of my projects.
Just a thought..
